How to Audit Your Year in 3 Steps
Ready to run your own audit? Here's the process:
Create a Master List — Get every standard into one tab. Color-code the priority standards: the non-negotiables that are foundational for future learning.
Map It Out — Copy those standards into your pacing guide. Check them off your master list as you go.
Find the Gaps — Any unchecked boxes are your danger zones: standards your students will be tested on that you're not currently covering.
That's it. No new software, no committee, no summer-long project. Just a clear-eyed look at what's actually happening in your classroom. Here is an example of one of our favorite audits from a popular math series. Do you see pacing and adjustments that need to be made?
Notice how the resource doesn't cover priority standards in every unit. Should that adjust?
Would your teachers benefit from knowing how to audit their resources to the standards? Your end-of-year scores say they would. :)
